A Yorkshire-based distillery has won an international award for the design of its pioneering gin bottle.

Cooper King Distillery, based in Sutton-on-the-Forest, north Yorkshire, has been awarded gold for its Cooper King Dry Gin bottle in the International Wine and Spirit Competition’s DMA awards.

Founded in 1969, the IWSC is considered to be the most prestigious competition of its kind in the world. The aim is to award excellence in wines and spirits worldwide, encouraging recognition for world leading innovation, creativity and brand personality.

Established in 2016 by Dr Abbie Neilson and Chris Jaume, Cooper King Distillery is a self-built, 100% green distillery located in the heart of Yorkshire.

Commenting on the award, co-founder Chris said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded gold for our inaugural bottle design. We have worked immensely hard with some of the best creatives in the country to ensure that this design was everything we dreamed it would be.

“It is very satisfying to see our attention to detail and hard work being recognised in such prestigious industry awards; this is an extremely proud moment for the small Cooper King team.”

The Cooper King Dry Gin bottle and branding was designed by York-based agency LazenbyBrown, featuring colourful marbling inspired by the Cooper King family volumes, written in 1855, recreated by York-based artist, Emily Stubbs.

Matt Lazenby, director of LazenbyBrown commented:

“We are hugely proud of this project and the Cooper King brand as a whole, it’s been wonderful seeing their unique story, strong ethics and personality come to life in the award-winning distillery we now see developing.”
